The School Day

Try to make sure there is a good start for your child by ensuring that they have everything they need before they leave home – PE kit, musical instrument, lunch box, homework, reading record etc.

Pupils enter the school site via the main gate to the infant car park. To ensure the safety of pedestrians, there is a raising arm barrier just beyond the main gates. Pupils should avoid arriving at school before 8.35am, as this is a busy time for the arrival of staff in their vehicles.

Due to the requirements within our risk assessment during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have altered the routines at the start and end of the school day.

We will be inviting parents to drop off any time between 8.45am and 9.05am. We would kindly ask that you do not arrive any earlier than 8.45am. Children should make their way across the playground and go directly into school. Staff will be on hand to help out and to ensure that children know exactly where to go. The registers will close at 9.05am, so children need to be in school by this time. We will continue to operate our one-way system, with parents following a route around the school building and exiting via the CVJS staff car park.

We will be staggering our break times. Lower school (Y3 & Y4, one class per playground quadrant) will break between 10.20 - 10.45 and upper school (Y5 & Y6) between 10.45 - 11.10am. We will endeavour to get children out in all weathers, so please remember waterproof coats on wet days.

Lunch will remain as 12.30pm until 1.25pm. Children eating hot dinners will go to the hall and children eating a packed lunch will eat in the classrooms / outside. The midday supervisors will split the main school hall into separate areas. Classes will be allowed in for their school dinners, spaced out accordingly, and then tables will be cleaned and the next class will come in. Our school kitchen staff (Caterlink) will still be providing hot meals. We will aim to use the field as much as possible at lunchtime, even on wet days, so children are invited to bring in an old pair of shoes or wellies so that we can make use of the outdoor spaces that we have. If it is too wet, each bubble will remain in their classroom.

End of day

The end of the day will be staggered to allow for smaller numbers of children leaving the school at the same time. Lower school (Y3 and Y4) will leave at 3.10pm and upper school (Y5 and Y6) at 3.20pm. We ask that parents wait on the playground (you can spread right across the space that we have) and we will bring the children out to you. If you have children in both groups, please remain in a space on the playground between these times. We will then ask everyone to continue to use the one-way system out of school. Please avoid gathering around the school gates in large numbers. Thank you.

The 'usual' routine

On entering the school site, pupils should proceed beyond the “pencil” marks into the main playground and from there they should enter the main school building via the designated entrances – these are open from 8.45am and pupils should go straight into school unless indicated to do otherwise by a member of staff.

We have found that staggered entry in the morning helps parents and pupils by easing traffic congestion on Station Road and enables parents to “drop and go” in the knowledge that their children are safe in school.

School ends:                              3.20pm

At the end of a normal school day, pupils leave the main school building via the two playground exits. Parents should wait beyond the “pencil” marks to meet their children. Pupils are not allowed to play on the playground, adventure playground, quiet area or field after school unless involved in an organised school activity. Again, to ensure the safety of pedestrians using the school site, vehicle access is forbidden from 3.10-3.30pm.

Pupils are reminded frequently that if they are expecting to be collected and if no-one is there, they must return to the school reception where they will be safe and helped with the situation.  They must not wander off the school site to look for anyone.  We will always take care of our pupils but please make sure your child knows what the arrangements are for picking up at home time before you leave them each morning. Thank you.
